Alena Marajh

Bio

Alena Marajh is a Fine Art Professional from Trinidad & Tobago currently residing in Brooklyn, NY. Marajh has 15+ years of professional experience in the Arts, working across both the primary and secondary markets. In 2020, Marajh graduated Honor’s with a Master’s in Art Business from the Sotheby’s Institute of Art (NY) and received a distinguished award for her thesis project, "Palette", a web based series spotlighting women artists working in their studios across the globe. 

In the Fall of 2022 she launched, Papaya Projects, an artist and gallery consulting business, focused on cultivating unique approaches to professional development for artists and project based support to contemporary Galleries. She currently manages three artists: Denae Howard (Mixed Media), Dede Lovelace (Painter), and Friday Lynton (Metal Artisan). In addition, Marajh consults for two Galleries with locations in Brooklyn, London and Lagos.

Marajh graduated college with a BA in Studio Art, and soon thereafter joined Amaridian Gallery, a contemporary Sub-Saharan African Art Gallery (NY) that represented 60+ artists. In 2013, Marajh contributed to the production and delivery of artworks for the Global Africa exhibition at the Museum of Arts & Design, curated by Lowery Stokes Sims. While at Amaridian, she also produced exhibitions at numerous art fairs ie. ICFF, SoFA. 

An avid collector, her collection is a reflection of emerging talent and bartered works from artist peers and clients. Behind the scenes, Marajh maintains a private studio practice, working primarily in playful mediums like crayons and watercolor. Her extensive first hand knowledge of materials, process and technique, contributes directly to her success as an artist manager.

  • Awarded the Premier Award, selected by the President of the College for a piece titled, "Honest", a metaphoric digital imaging artwork exploring self-portraiture.

  • Associated with NYSSSA - New York State Summer School of Arts
  • Printmaking piece titled, "Lips" acquired to be part of Albright-Knox Art Gallery's permanent collection, located in Buffalo, NY.
